I just found you and I thought: "I really need some fine art such as this on my dash!", especially since I grew up with Disney's animated series. Gummy Bears, Winny The Pooh, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Goof Troops, Ducktales, and the one and only terror that flaps in the night. the batteries that aren't included, Darkwing Duck! :D Anyway, I hope to see plenty of your faboulous drawings here, mister, it'll be a joy to have them on my dash to light up my day. :)
Thank you very much. Hopefully a Powerline will light up the rest of your day.
Will you be attending CONvergence con in Minnesota next year?
I have no plans to at this point. The only cons I have definitive plans to exhibit at next year are SDCC, Emerald City Comic Con and New York Comic Con. I will also possibly be showing at Kawaii Kon, Wondercon and C2E2.
As long as we’re on the subject-
I would love to be able to attend every con there is to do. It’s really great meeting everyone in all parts of the country and the world. My problem is that I live in Hawaii (boo hoo, poor me) which makes it very expensive to travel, well, anywhere. In addition to the comics and the fine art I do for Disney, cons are a factor in my income. It has to make financial sense for me to do a con. I do a lot of prep before a con. Preparing sketches ahead of time so I don’t have turn people away or have less time to talk to people who actually make the effort to come see me. But the reality is a 2 day con with 5 thousand attendees is just not as viable for me to exhibit at as a 4 day con with 100k attendees.
That being said, if a con wants to have me as a guest and bring me out, I would be more that happy to come. I would also relentlessly promote my appearance to my followers. If you would like this to happen, let the organizers of you local con know. I realize I do not currently have a comic on the shelves and , as the saying goes “tumblr famous is not ‘famous’ famous”. For that reason, a guest at a con might be a long shot, but if you’d really like to see me at your local con, it doesn’t hurt to ask. And I will be there with bells on.
You are truly amazing. Your artwork is all so spectacular. I love Peter Pan and Star Wars and doctor who so your mashups with him as a Jedi and the doctor are pure gold. Just wanted to say you are one of my favorite artists and I love seeing your drawings on my dash!
Thank you. I’ll try and post new stuff as much as I can.
I just wanna say how much your art makes me smile everyday >w< You're the best! I hope I get as good as you one day (I'm gonna try! :D) Oh and your Darkwing Duck sketches are the best! Really brings back the ol' childhood memories! ^^
Thank you, I appreciate the kind note. How about a little more Darkwing for you…
Hello uwu I just wanted to let you know that I really admire you as an artist. I am sorry if you get asked this a lot, but do you have any tips or rules of thumb for making the subjects look dynamic and avoiding that "stiffness" that a lot of beginning artists have trouble with?
Thank you for following my stuff.
That is an excellent question you pose and a problem I felt I had up until quite recently in my career. My partner in ink, Amy Mebberson came from an animation background and taught me quite a few things about the process. Probably my biggest problem until that point trying to be too detailed when I start off a drawing. The head, the face, the fingers, all the details. What I learned to do was to start off with the overall shape. Do a stick figure with the motion you want to convey. and build a one line shape around that. If you can track them down, find the model sheets for Aladdin. Those are the best examples of characters that follow a simple shape. Draw those character shapes in motion and worry about the details later. Drawing is a visual medium. The character you draw should be able to tell a story in one picture.
I hope that helps. One day I might try and do some sort of tutorial about this. Or I might just take a nap. Who knows.
I really love your art!! You bring back my childhood memories with the Darkwing Duck comics you made! I really liked the arc of the Dimensional Darkwings; and here's a though, Darkwarrior Duck it's considered as an Anti-Hero, so you think that there's more antiheroes versions in other dimensions? Like The Ghost Rider, Spawn, The Mask or (my favorite) Deadpool?
I think I might have stuck a Deadpool Darkwing in the background of one of those issues. I’ll have to go back and look. There’s probably an alternate version of all those you mentioned.
Awesome work you're doing! It's Good to see the Disney classic characters HAVEN'T died out. and i like these modern/cultural takes you've conjured up on them now. Here's to a lot of good animated shows we're missing today.
Thank you for that. I was brought up on Disney rereleases from the 70’s so I appreciate the old stuff.
